HONOLULU — Aloha Stadium officials will step up security at University of Hawaii football games after someone aimed a laser pointer at a visiting football player.
A University of Wyoming quarterback Saturday reported a laser was shined at him and alerted his coach.
KHON-TV reports referees stopped play and the public address announcer warned fans that laser pointers were prohibited.
Harassment with a laser pointer can bring a fine of up to $500 and a jail sentence of up to 30 days.
Deputy stadium manager Lois Manin says it could be difficult to spot laser pointers in stepped-up bag checks. She says reporting violations through the stadium’s anonymous texting program will be more effective.
Fans can report suspicious activity by text through the stadium’s “If You See Something, Say Something” program.
