Kahilu Theatre presents “Stars of American Ballet” at 7 p.m. Thursday. This night at the ballet offers top-notch choreography with principal and soloist-level dancers from major American companies.
New York City Ballet principal dancer Daniel Ulbricht directs and performs with a select ensemble of ballet stars. The program includes “Swan Lake” excerpts and “Who Cares?” by George Balanchine, “Liturgy” by Christopher Wheeldon and additional choreography by Jerome Robbins and others.
“Stars” also supports dance education programs to build a better awareness and overall experience with the art form of ballet. There will also be a youth show at 9 a.m. Oct. 24 at Kahilu. Schools, homeschoolers and parents with young children are welcome to register and learn more about youth shows kahilutheatre.org/education/youth-shows.
Ulbricht was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., and began his dance training at the age of 11. At age 16, Ulbricht was invited by the School of American Ballet, the official school of New York City Ballet, to continue his training. In December 2000, he became an apprentice with New York City Ballet and in November 2001, he joined the company as a member of the corps de ballet. In January 2005, Ulbricht was promoted to the rank of soloist, and subsequently principal dancer in May 2007. Currently, Ulbricht is the artistic adviser of Manhattan Youth Ballet and associate artistic director of New York State Summer School for the Arts in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Ulbricht is also the founder and director of Daniel Ulbricht and Friends, a dance ensemble devoted to presenting high caliber dance performances, as well as education and outreach programs.
