Thomas Kalani

Thomas “Ola” Hauola Kalani, 53, of Hilo died Oct. 7, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 5, 1961, in Hilo, he was a former crane operator for Hilo Coast Processing Co.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 23 at Onekahakaha Beach Park, pavilion 6. Family requests casual or beach attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by daughter, Angelica (Bill Lorenzo) Kawewehi of Ka‘u; son, Tristan (Kehau Ke) Oliveros of Ka‘u; mother, Geri Kalani of Hilo; brothers, Gerard (Maxine) Kalani of Kona, Kelvin (Samantha) Peralto of California, Baron Ahulau of Illinois; sisters, Maile Estabillio, Leimomi (David) Shearer and Karen (Gordon Pacheco) Kalani, all of Hilo; nine grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lorraine King

Lorraine A. (Dolan) King, 92, of Kailua, Oahu, died Oct. 4, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in San Francisco, she was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, member of the first class of women Marines in March 1943, a retired hospital admissions official and switchboard operator and parishioner of Sacred Hearts Church, Pahoa.

Services will be held at a later date in California.

She is survived by daughter, Alida (Ray) Gandy; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Sharron Barron

Sharron Lynn Barron, 70, of Pahoa died Oct. 5, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born May 18, 1944 in Illinois, she was a paralegal.

No services are planned.

Murry Hasson

Murry R. Hasson, 88, of Hilo died Oct. 8, 2014, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born May 30, 1926 in Bronx, N.Y., he was a retired electrical engineer for Bell Labs and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by daughters, Randy (Tracy Nagakura) Hasson of Hilo, Kathryn (Ronald) Remis of Camarillo, Calif; sister, Eleanor Hasson of New Jersey; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Katsuyoshi Sakae

Katsuyoshi Sakae, 88, of Kurtistown died Sept. 10, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Olaa, he was a retired heavy equipment operator from the former Puna Sugar Co., worked for Calavo Growers Inc. in Keaau and was a member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Kurtistown Jodo Mission, Kurtistown Young Men’s Association and Kurtistown Kumiai.

Private services were held.

He is survived by sisters, Yukiko Hayashida and Yasue Sako, both of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Katherine Waihee

Katherine “Kay” Waihee, 85, of Hilo died Sept. 30, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born Jan. 13, 1929, in Kauai, she worked in the food and hospitality industry.

She is survived by sons, David Waihee of Hilo, Richard Waihee of Kona; daughter, Debbie Waihee of Hilo; two grandsons; sisters, Isabelle Kamau and Patricia Canyon, both of Oahu; brother, Eugene Marques of Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Corrie Galdeira-Nihoa

Corrie Healani Galdeira-Nihoa, 46, of Hilo died Oct. 12, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 17, 1968, in Honolulu, she was a homemaker.

William Kenny

William Francis Kenny, 61, of Kealakekua died Oct. 6, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 5, 1953, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a retired production manager in the printing industry.

Private scattering of ashes was held Oct. 14.

He is survived by sister, Sheila (John) Mason of Kailua-Kona and Oro Valley, Ariz.; companion, Julianne Belbin of Keauhou.

Asae Mizuno

Asae Mizuno, 92, of Pahala died Sept. 11, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Pahala, she was a homemaker, former employee of the former S.K. Mizuno Farms and member of the Pahala Hongwanji Mission and Fujinkai.

Private services were held.

She is survived by daughter, Carolyn (Ronald) Nago of Honolulu; sons, Stanley Mizuno and Ray (Pamela) Mizuno, both of Pahala; brother, Robert (Beatrice) Yokomizo of Honolulu; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Teruko Yamada

Teruko Yamada, 88, of Hilo died Sept. 16, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Feb. 1, 1926, in Hilo, she was the vice president of I. Yamada Furniture Store Ltd. and member of Halai Kumiai.

Private services were held. In lieu of monetary gifts or flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Hilo, 1011 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, HI 96720.

She is survived by daughter, Carol (Gerald) Makino of Hilo; sons, Robin Yamada and Gene (Martha) Yamada, both of Hilo; sister, Ellen (Charles) Kobashigawa, of Aiea, Oahu; four grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Richard A. Perret

Richard A. Perret, 79, of Mansfield, Ohio, and Waikoloa, died Oct. 14, 2014, at home. Born July 14, 1935, in Canton, Ohio, he as an electrical engineer for the former Empire Detroit, AK Steel and consultant.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home in Mansfield, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice. Online condolences may be posted at snyderfuneralhomes.com.
