Holiday by the Sea benefits charity walk

The Royal Kona Resort will host Holiday by the Sea, a benefit for the Hawaii Visitor Industry Charity Walk.

Dinner entertainment includes Bula Akamu, Pomaikai Brown, DJ Tiger and a Polynesian show by Te Ea O Te Turama. A craft fair, silent auction and family holiday photos are also planned.

Holiday by the Sea will be held from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Royal Kona Resort, Luau Grounds. All proceeds benefit the 2015 Charity Walk sponsored by the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association. Cost is $20 per adult and $10 per keiki 12 and younger. Call 930-3246 for tickets, or to reserve a vendor space.

King’s Daughters seeks volunteers

The King’s Daughters Ministry Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, consisting of all volunteers, needs help in the Thrift Store located at 79-7401 Mamalahoa Highway, Kealakekua. Volunteers are needed to sort and price donations, assist with the toy list and gift wrapping, and help with the turkey giveaway at 9 a.m. Nov. 22. Contact Helen at 937-5940 to volunteer.

Culinary students serving lunch

The University of Hawaii Center at West Hawaii culinary arts students present their fall luncheon schedule and themes: Oct. 31, Philippines or Indonesia local pork; Nov, 12, Italy; Nov. 14, Indian local lamb; Nov. 19, France; and Nov. 21, Vietnam local shrimp or catch. Lunch is served at the campus located at 81-964 Halekii St., Kealakekua.

Lunch is $20 per person, served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations will be taken on Mondays, the week of the luncheon begining at 8 a.m. Call 969-8803. Forty-eight hours prior notice for changes or cancellations is requested. Schedule and pricing are subject to change. Diners are also asked to advise of any known food allergies in advance for an accommodation.

Haunted House opens tonight

The public is invited to enter Portals of Fear, a professional haunted house open from 8 p.m. to midnight today, Saturday and Oct. 31 at 74-5606 Luhia St., Kailua-Kona.

Waimea club offers dance lessons

Ballroom dancers are invited to learn West Coast Swing starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Kahilu Town Hall at 67-1182 Lindsey Road in Waimea. The six-week session is sponsored by the Waimea Ballroom Dance Club, a private nonprofit dedicated to promoting social ballroom dance. An hour of instruction is followed by a half-hour practice mixer.

Registration is held the first two weeks starting at 6:30 p.m. No partner is necessary. Club fee is $10; class fee is $10 for all six weeks. Lance Oliver is the instructor.

Watanabe graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Samuel A. Watanabe has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Watanabe is the son of Cynthia and Darryl Watanabe of Hilo.

He is a 2011 graduate of Waiakea High School.
