There are better incinerator options

Before proceeding with the proposed waste-to-energy plant, I suggest all explore the large amount of information available regarding these plants online.

There are basically three main types of waste-to-energy plants in use worldwide — lower temperature incinerators, which are less efficient, giving off more pollutants and toxins; gasifier plants, which operate at higher temperatures with less pollution; and plasma plants, which operate at extreme temperatures. My opinion is that the gasifier plant may provide the best solution for use on the Big Island , in terms of cost and safety.

The United States is bringing up the rear with waste-to-energy conversion, especially in comparison to Europe and Japan. Many existing plants are efficient, nonpolluting, dealing effectively with carbon dioxide and hazardous wastes, generating power while eliminating waste. Some systems also provide useful by products such as syngas or synfuels. These fuels would be a plus for the Big Island.

Waste being generated on the Big Island is increasing exponentially into the future. The cost of dealing with this waste can be addressed partly by a carefully chosen waste-to-energy system plant.

We trust our legislators have fully reviewed the easily obtained information and track record of existing waste-to-energy plants worldwide.

In closing, I would endorse this technology and investment, so long as the proper system is carefully selected. I recommend we select the most cost effective, proven gasifier or plasma type of system for our island. We may realize there is misinformation regarding waste-to-energy plants and dangerous output . Control and profit entities sometimes produce disinformation and fear as a by product.
