Hikers rescued from forest reserve in Volcano

Two hikers were rescued Sunday afternoon after they became lost in a forest reserve in Volcano.

The hikers were airlifted by Hawaii Fire Department rescue personnel after they became lost on a trail located at the end of Ala Kapena Drive, according to the department. The hikers used a cell phone to contact the department after encountering unfamiliar terrain in the area.

The hikers reported no injuries. The Department of Land and Natural Resources was on the scene and questioning the hikers for possible unauthorized entry into the restricted area.
