The sweep was fast and easy, and some of the hitting numbers were eye-popping.
But University of Hawaii at Hilo coach Tino Reyes was already looking ahead Sunday night after the Vulcans dominated Holy Names in a 75-minute volleyball match at their gym.
“We’re starting to build some good habits,” Reyes said.
The Vulcans (7-11, 6-9 Pacific West Conference) were balanced, efficient and thorough in the 25-12, 25-15, 25-18 victory against hapless Holy Names (1-21, 1-15), earning their first two-match win streak since the start of league play.
Kyndra Trevino-Scott and Callie Aberle each ripped nine kills as the Vulcans hit a season-high .372, including .500 in the first set.
“You look at some of the numbers, and it’s shocking,” Reyes said.
Leading the way was Trevino-Scott, who took only 13 swings and hit .692. Stacey Witt (.500) added eight kills and Shelby Harguess (.455) had six.
Trevino-Scott, a sophomore middle blocker, added seven blocks as the Vulcans dominated in that department (9-2).
“Kyndra was really good,” Reyes said.
The Vulcans once again played without sophomore outside hitter Marley Strand-Nicolaisen.
Melissa Munley compiled 11 kills for the Hawks, who hit just .068.
Reyes wasn’t willing to draw too much from a victory against a team with only one win, though he said the performance could serve as a building block.
The Vulcans complete their home schedule Saturday against Notre Dame de Namur, then they finish the season with four matches on the road.
“If we can duplicate some of the things we did tonight in terms of passing and serving, this will help us down the road,” Reyes said.

Nikki Taylor smacked 22 kills as Hawaii beat UC Santa Barbara 25-22, 19-25, 25-25, 25-16 in Honolulu.
Olivia Magill and Kalei Greeley each added 10 kills for the Rainbow Wahine (14-5, 6-2 Big West), who hardly missed Tai Manu-Olevao, who doesn’t play on Sundays because of religious reasons.
Ali Barbeau led the Gauchos (9-10, 4-4) with 16 kills.
