Lourdes Tolentino

Lourdes Calabitin Tolentino, 51, of Keaau died Oct. 12, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 15, 1962, in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was an employee for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company and a member of Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. Oct. 31 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Nov. 1 at Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Florencio Tolentino of Keaau; sons, Lourence (Maila Naiga) Tolentino of Keaau, Frodel (Karen) Tolentino of Honolulu, Melvin Tolentino of Keaau; daughter, Lenie Tolentino of Keaau; brothers, Dominador Calabitin, Emeterio Calabitin, Edwin (Evangeline) Calabitin and Nelson Calabitin, all of the Philippines; sisters, Augustina Calamaan of Hong Kong and Emily (Gregory) Bareng of the Philippines; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dennis Kaawa Sr.

Dennis “Tutu” Keonaona Kaawa Sr., 66, of Waiohinu died Oct. 13, 2014, at home. Born Oct. 10, 1948, in Kealakekua, he was a self-employed farmer and fisherman, a former cook for Punaluu Village Restaurant, and a farmer for Ka’u Orange.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Nov. 1 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ka’u Ward for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Naalehu Community Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by sons, Dennis (Mahana) Kaawa Jr. of Panaewa, Daniel (Trina) Kaawa of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates and Derick Kaawa of Waiohinu; daughters, Kimberly Kauwe of Waiohinu and Kristy (Brad) Hughes of Honolulu; brothers, Dave (Tammy) Kaawa Sr. of Kahuku, Larry (Laura) Kaawa of Naalehu and Eric (Kimberly) Kaawa of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates; sisters, Sarah (Matthew) Lazar of Honolulu, Doris Silva of Hilo, Verna Kaawa of Waiohinu, Evon Kaawa of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Gail Kaawa of Waiohinu and Stephanie (Karl) Mento of Kailua-Kona; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shizuko Akamine

Shizuko Akamine, 92, of Hilo died Oct. 13, 2014, at home. Born Feb. 12, 1922, in Olaa, she was a former assistant manager with Finance Factors Ltd., insurance agent for Occidental Underwriters of Hawaii Ltd., and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association, Hui Okinawa, Shoshin-Kai Koto Club, Olaa Village Reunion Committee, and Hilo High School Class of 1940 Committee.

Friends may call at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Martha Terao and Alison Akamine, both of Hilo; sisters, Tomie Higa of Honolulu, Tsuruko Shimabukuro and Amy (Tom) Ban, both of Hilo; brothers, Eichiro Higa of Las Vegas, Douglas (Corinne) Higa, of Waimea, Thomas Higa, of Honolulu; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Christopher Romah

Christopher David Romah, 39, of Hilo died Sept. 30, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 30, 1975, in Cleveland, he was a safety administrator for Hawaii Electric Light Company and a U.S. Army veteran.

Elsie Kamiya

Elsie Shizuko Kamiya, 90, of Hilo died Oct. 9, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 6, 1923, in Kukuihaele, she was a homemaker and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by daughters, Charlene (George) Nakashima of Volcano, Merlene (Ronald) Nitta of Hilo; brothers, Takeo Ishiki of Hilo, Takemori (Yoshiko) Ishiki of Kukuihaele; sisters, Kikue (Takeo) Toma of Honokaa, Doris (Ray) Zlomke, of California, Shirley (Hisashi) Araki, of Kaneohe, Oahu; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry Michael

Larry “Mike” Michael, 62, Kealakekua died Oct. 11 at the Kona Community Hospital. Born in Billings, Mont. July 21, 1952, he was a journeyman carpenter. Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Mary-Jayne Haux of Kealakekua; son, Michael Haux of Ft. Benning, Ga.; brother, Steve Haux of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; sisters, Sandy (Jim) Entler of Portland, Ore., Cathy (Mike) Carnes of Washougal, Wash., 3 grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Adolph Johansen Jr.

Adolph “Junior” Johansen Jr., 83, of Laupahoehoe died Oct. 2, 2014, at home. Born June 19, 1931, in Ookala, he retired as a caretaker for Manuka State Park, was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and a member of American Legion – Hawaii Ocean View Estates.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at Waikaumalo Park in Ninole for a celebration of life with an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Christine Johansen of Laupahoehoe; daughters, Heidi Johansen of Kona, Kandi (David) Johansen of Texas, Tina (Leonard) Johansen of Laupahoehoe; son, Mel (Moana) Johansen of Kona; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
