UCF athletes are ranked No. 1 in classroom among public universities.

The Knights topped the Graduation Success Rate rankings released by the NCAA Tuesday, with 95 percent of athletes who enrolled in 2007 having earned degrees.

UCF ranks No. 5 among all schools, trailing private institutions Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke and Northwestern.

“I’m incredibly proud of our everyday champion student-athletes, our coaches and the culture of academic excellence they’ve created here at UCF,” UCF athletic director Todd Stansbury said in a news release. “This is obviously the result of a lot of hard work and a great support system. When you look at the institutions around us in the rankings, that’s a great neighborhood to live in.”

The UCF football program tied for No. 10 nationally with a 90 percent GSR, placing third among public schools. The national average for other football programs was 75 percent.

Texas San Antonio ranked No. 1 with a 100 percent GSR, following by No. 2 Stanford (99 percent), No. 3 Northwestern (97 percent), No. 4 Rice (95 percent), No. 5 Notre Dame (94 percent), No. 6 Air Force (93 percent), No. 7 Boston College (92 percent), No. 8 Duke (92 percent), No. 9 Northern Illinois (91 percent) and Wake Forest tied with UCF at No. 10 (90 percent).
