Kona Orchid Society to hold monthly meeting
The Kona Orchid Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Friday at Makua Lani Christian School on Kealakaa Street off Palani Road.
Speaker Leonard Gines of Gines Orchids will discuss Bulbophilum’s care and joys. A potluck dinner begins at 6:15 p.m. Participants may bring orchids to display. There will be a drawing for orchids.

Holualoa’s Art After Dark set for Friday
Holualoa Village art galleries and shops will offer refreshments, music and new art debuts from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Friday. The monthly Art After Dark event will feature many new works by area artists. Dovetail Gallery will spotlight unique copper and etched glass vessels by Heather Mettler, who will be on hand to meet and talk story.
Artist William Wingert will be painting live in the Holualoa Gallery during the evening.
The Holuakoa Gardens &Cafe is having a wine tasting hosted by Kiley Nakagawa of Young’s Market.
Pat Pearlman Designs, in the pink Kona Hotel, will feature sterling and bronze coffee bean jewelry.
Also, Holualoa’s Coffee &Art Stroll is an opening event for the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Holualoa. More than 30 area coffee farmers will present free samples. For more information visit holualoahawaii.com.

Hula Preservation Society presents three cultural programs
The nonprofit Hula Preservation Society announces a cultural program series from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily Tuesday through Thursday at Hawaii Convention Center in Waikiki, Oahu. The series offers the opportunity to be enriched by hula, music and education.

Veterans Day parade planned in Hilo
Hilo will host the seventh annual Hawaii Island Veterans Day Parade, honoring members from all branches of military service and their families Saturday. Participants will begin assembling at 8 a.m. and the parade will begin at 9 at the Kamehameha Statue off Kamehameha Highway and will travel through downtown Hilo. Golf tournament to benefit culinary program
The inaugural Big Island Bites Golf Tournament and After Bites Awards Reception will be held Saturday at Mauna Kea Resort.
In addition to the four-person scramble shotgun start, golfers will enjoy food and specialty drinks throughout the course. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Culinary Federation Kona Kohala Chefs Association’s campaign to equip the kitchens at West Hawaii Community College at Palamanui.
The tournament will be held from noon to 6 p.m. and the reception will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Entry fees are $300 per person. Guests of golfers may attend the reception for $75.

Chocolate benefit scheduled on Oahu
Emmanuel Church in Kailua, Oahu is hosting its 12th annual Chocolate Extravaganza, an all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet and auction at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Church, 780 Keolu Drive. Proceeds from the event will be shared with Family Promise of Hawaii, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families with children escape homelessness.

Kohala Aina Festival scheduled
The fifth annual Kohala Aina Festival, presented by the Hawaii Institute of Pacific Agriculture will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday on the makai fairgrounds of the historic Iole ahupuaa in Kapaau. Live music, food and educational workshops will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. with keynote presentations and entertainment from 6 to 9 p.m.
This festival marks the beginning of the makahiki season celebrating local harvest. A locally-grown Hawaiian-style feast and keiki activities will be included. The event will raise funds for youth education programs. Musical headliners are Nahko and Ooklah The Moc.

Kuikahi Mediation Center holds dinner and auction
Kuikahi Mediation Center, in participation with the Hawaii County Bar Association, is hosting the ninth annual recognition dinner and auction at 5 p.m. Sunday in Hilo to benefit the nonprofit human services agency.
No-host cocktails will be served at 5 p.m., a buffet dinner is at 6. The event will also include a silent auction, live auction and door prizes.
