Newspaper seeks holiday event information
With the holiday season approaching, philanthropic Big Island residents are coming together to give time, energy, money and other gifts to various charity events. West Hawaii Today is compiling a list of these holiday charity events in our coverage area, which is from Kohala through Kona to Ka’u.
The deadline for submissions is by 5 p.m. Nov. 14 and will be strictly enforced. Submissions should be kept as brief as possible and include pertinent details, such as who is offering the event; time, date and where it will be held; what’s needed, being collected or donated; the cost and contact information.
Submissions will be edited to the newspaper staff’s discretion. Events costing $100 or more will not be published in this list. While West Hawaii Today makes every effort to accommodate all holiday charity event submissions, publication is not guaranteed. Space, content and parity will be considered.

Kona Traffic Safety Committee meeting planned
The Kona Traffic Safety Committee will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Halau, Building G of the West Hawaii Community Center. The committee creates an opportunity for concerned members of the community to meet with County and State officials who can help mitigate traffic safety problems. Everyone will be heard, new ideas are welcome. The committee meets the second Thursday of each month.
Daughters of Hawaii plan party
A Daughters of Hawaii and Calabash Cousin mahalo party will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at a private residence. Birthdays will be celebrated. Spouses are welcome.

HPA presents “Beauty and the Beast”
Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Ka Makani Players will present Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 2 p.m. Nov. 16. at the school’s Gates Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students available at the door.

Read Aloud Shakespeare meets once a month
Read Aloud Shakespeare meets once a month to read The Bard’s plays. The next free meeting is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Kona Coffee &Tea on Palani Road. Come early to purchase a beverage or pupu before the reading begins. Turns are taken reading parts; no previous Shakespeare or acting ability required.

Home and vehicle security class offered
A free home and vehicle security program will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Tutu’s House, Waimea. Tips provided will educate the community about protecting homes from burglary and vehicles from theft, especially during the holidays.

Christmas at Kamakahonu Bay culinary fundraiser scheduled
Area chefs will be pulling out all the stops for the annual American Culinary Federation Kona-Kohala Chefs scholarship fundraiser, Christmas at Kamakahonu Bay from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 on the luau grounds at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. This event was formerly known as Christmas at the Fairmont and Christmas at Kona Village.
Guests will enjoy jazz by the Bill Noble Trio, dancing under the stars, a silent auction, fine wines and handcrafted beers.
