Chef’s Choice Five Star Kona Coffee Awards winners announced

The Kona Coffee Farmer’s Association sponsored The Chef’s Choice Five Star Kona Coffee Awards Saturday during the Holualoa Coffee and Art Stroll in Holualoa.

Six coffees were awarded out of 38 entires. The winners were Phat Cat Coffee, Konaroma Coffee, Aikane Coffee, Kanalani Ohana Farms, Holualoa Organics and Jasminum Farms.

Three discerning chef judges gave their time and talents to choose the winners. The judges were Joe Forster from Holuakoa Cafe, Amelia Antonucci Fisher of The Strawberry Patch and Morgan Starr of Mi’s Bistro.

Rotary Club of Kona Mauka meeting cancelled

A car care badge workshop offered for Girl Scouts

A Car Care Badge Workshop will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at Auto Body Hawaii for middle and high school Girl Scouts. The class is designed to acquaint the girls with their vehicles’ maintenance needs before reaching driving age. They will also learn about vehicle safety, driving with passengers and what to do if involved in an accident.

Girls attending the event will earn a car care badge and goody bag with other information and gifts from Auto Body Hawaii. The event is open to any registered Girl Scout. To participate, call Marci Goldman-Manker 966-9376 or visit mamanker@girlscouts-hawaii.org.

Healing workshop offered in Hawi

Master Peng Xiaoping from China is an internationally recognized teacher and healer who worked at the world’s largest qigong hospital that does not use medicine, Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Clinic & Training Center.

Xiaoping is offering a workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Kokolulu Farm and Retreats in Hawi. He will share exercises to boost immune systems, assist in healing processes and teach how to help others heal. The cost is $245. To register, visit kokolulu.org or call 889-9893. This is Xiaoping’s last workshop before returning to China.

Free health insurance help available in Waimea

Kipuka O Ke Ola, a native Hawaiian health and wellness clinic in Waimea, provides assistance with health insurance choices available under the federal Affordable Care Act. Open enrollment will start Saturday. Qualifying events will enable some to apply prior to open enrollment. Small business owners can apply throughout the year.

Kaalualu to Kamilo cleanup event

A Hawaii Wildlife Fund Kaʻu Community Coastal Cleanup event will be taking place from 7:45 a.m. Nov. 15 between Kaalualu Bay and Kamilo Point. Volunteers will caravan or carpool from Waiohinu Park, mile marker 65 along Highway 11.

Additional volunteers and four-wheel drive vehicles are needed. Bring sturdy footware, food, water, sun/wind protection, gloves/buckets and swimsuit if desired.

Hawaii Wildlife Fund will provide extra gloves, some buckets, trashbags, water refills, first-aid kit and a camping toilet. Ladies Auxiliary events scheduled

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 12122, will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the VFW Post, 74-5543 Kaiwi St., Suite 185A (behind Kona Locksmith).
