Active shooter presentation planned

The Hawaii Police Department will hold an active shooter presentation from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kona police station conference room in Kealakehe. The class will help attendees increase their survivability should they encounter an active shooter or other type of active violent incident.

Police will provide information on previous incidents of mass violence, best practices for those caught in such situations and how to work together as a community toward prevention.

Kealakekua Library offers free solar system program

Explore the solar system in a fun, free and interactive activity at the Kealakekua Public Library from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. Learn about the sizes of planets and distances between planets in the solar system. This program is conducted by the University of Hawaii’s Institute of Astronomy and is suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Funds available to help neighborhoods reduce wildfire risk

Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization has $5,000 for up to four participating neighborhoods to conduct a community fuels reduction project. Those with fire-prone vegetation overrunning their neighborhood may apply by rallying at least 10 households to sign on.
