HONOLULU — A fourth Virginia-class submarine will arrive in Pearl Harbor next week.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the USS Mississippi will join the Hawaii, the Texas and the North Carolina at the military facility.

The Mississippi was commissioned in 2012.

The Congressional Research Service says Virginia-class attack submarines cost an average of $2.7 billion. The 377-foot vessels carry Tomahawk missiles.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus in July said the first women on Virginia-class subs in the Pacific will serve on the Mississippi and the Texas starting in fiscal 2016.

Hawaii is home to the largest number of attack submarines in the Pacific. Fourteen Los Angeles-class subs on the Pacific Fleet sub force website are listed as being home-ported at Pearl Harbor.
