HONOLULU — The Hawaii Tourism Authority is appointing an interim CEO to take the place of Mike McCartney, who is leaving office to become the new governor’s chief of staff.
Atlantis Adventures CEO Ronald Williams takes over on Friday. He will lead the organization until a permanent president is found.
The tourism authority’s board will form a search committee to find a new president. The agency will officially announce the job opening and selection criteria at a later date.
The tourism authority is a state agency responsible for optimizing the tourism industry’s benefits for Hawaii. It aims to bring together the interests of visitors, the community and visitor industry.
McCartney will be chief of staff to Gov.-elect David Ige. He has been the tourism authority’s CEO since 2009.
