La Kuokoa, or Hawaiian Independence Day, was celebrated on Friday in Kona.

Hawaiians and supporters marched from Kailua-Kona to Keauhou to enhance awareness in the community and throughout the world about one of the longest standing National Holidays of the Kingdom of Hawaii. The participants gathered at the Old Kona Airport for opening thoughts and pule before traversing eight miles to Keauhou at the birth site of Kauikeaouli, Kamehameha III.
