Habitat for Humanity seeks volunteers to repair Puna storm damage
Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii is seeking volunteers to make repairs to homes in Puna damaged by tropical storm Iselle. Efforts will include tree removal and repairs to roofs and structures.
“Not only were the effects of the storm devastating,” said Patrick Hurney, executive director, “but the unpredictability of the lava flow has delayed our work considerably. Now we are looking forward to helping the Puna community rebuild and move forward.”

Fine art photographer to appear in Kona
Fine art photographer Kelly Dunn will appear from noon to 8 p.m. Dec. 12 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Free autographed photo cards will be available while supplies last. Validated parking will be $3.
Elks party is Saturday
Kona Elks Lodge 2616 will hold a party Saturday. An antipasto salad bar and cocktails will be offered at 5 p.m and dinner starts at 6:30 and includes beef tenderloin, shrimp scampi and desserts. A house band will play, except during dinner. Cost is $30. Members and their guests should call 329-2616 for reservations.
Kailua-Kona book sale is Saturday
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona will hold its next book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the lanai of the Kailua-Kona Library. Proceeds help support the needs of the Kona libraries.
This is the final sale of all music CDs, music cassette tapes, VCR tapes and LPs which will be priced at 10 cents each. The organization will continue to accept donations and sell DVDs, books on CD and Hawaiian music on CD at future book sales. These items will remain at the current published pricing. Christmas stocking stuffers will also be available for purchase.

Music &Light Festival at hand in Holualoa
The Holualoa Village Association presents the 18th annual Music &Light Festival from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m Saturday. The event features Christmas music, entertainment and food.
Santa Claus will cruise through town to open the festivities followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree on the lawn of the old Holualoa library at dusk. Children can visit with Santa between the Holualoa Gallery and the Post Office. The Innovations Charter School will perform at the library, followed by the musicians and vocalists of Mele Ohana. Guitarists Kristen Legasse and Kalima and the strolling A cappella group the Kona Blend Quartet will perform in addition to John Keawe and ohana who will be outside the Kona Hotel.
No parking is available in town, but will be available at both the upper and lower village parking lots, Holualoa School and the Imin Center. Visitors are encouraged to car pool and bring flashlights.
Poinsettia sale and craft event is Sunday
The Kona Business and Professional Women’s annual poinsettia sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until plants sell out, Sunday at Hale Halawai. Red, pink and white poinsettias will be sold in 6-inch, 8-inch and two-gallon pots. This event raises money for the group’s high school scholarship and Grant for Success giftings. Also, St Michael’s Catholic Church will be hosting a craft event.
Talk on Nepal planned in Naalehu
Members of the Naalehu United Methodist Church have announced the creation of The Ka’u Aloha Forum, which will provide presentations and concerts by talented artists.
The first event will be Sunday at the church. Mary Carroll, honorary consul of Nepal and resident of Ka’u, will give a presentation about the Nepal Foundation and how it has been helping those in Nepal’s remote regions.
After the presentation, the Nepal Foundation is sponsoring a fundraising Christmas reception at the Carroll home. All donors of $50 or more are invited. Send checks by Thursday to: P.O. Box 654, Naalehu, HI, 96772.
