West Side Hawaii LL opens Waikoloa registration

The West Side Hawaii Little League will hold registration in Waikoloa from 5-6 p.m. Fridays this month.

The registration at Hooko Park is for T-ball, coach pitch, minors, majors and juniors divisions.

Bring a copy of birth certificate and three proofs of residency.

Registration from Kona residents is still being accepted till Jan. 1.

Waimea boys hoops registration to begin

Parks and Rec Waimea has announced its 2015 boys basketball season.

Register online at waimeaathletics.org or in person Dec. 8-10 from 3:30-5 p.m. at Thelma Gym.

Clinics will be held on the same day and led by Fred Wawner, co-varsity head coach at Hawaii Prep. Clinics begin at 3:30 for ages 9-10, and 4:30 for 11-12 and 13-14.

The league runs from Jan. 27 to March 12. The fee is $10, payable to Waimea Athletic.

Free-throw shooting contest in Kona

A free-throw shooting contest for boys and girls ages 8-13 will be held Jan. 10 at Kekuaokalani Gym in Kailua-Kona.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with competition at 10. The age groups are: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. There is no cost.

The contest is a step toward national competition, with the finals to be held April 16-19 in Springfield, Mass. Kona Elks Lodge will provide for transportation of winners along with one parent for out-of-state competition.

Kona Coast LL holds registration

The Kona Coast Little League is open to players, ages 4 1/2 to 8, who reside in the area from Pottery Terrace to Manuka or attend a school in the district.

Registration will be at Yano Hall on: Tuesday, 4:30-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon; Dec. 16 and 20, 4:30-6 p.m.

Bring an original birth certificate and two proofs of residency. Proofs include a HELCO or water bill, cable bill, driver’s license, and vehicle or insurance records. All documents must have a physical address.

Payment by cash or check is required at registration.

Kohala offers hoops, T-ball, pitchball

The Kohala Community Athletic Association is sponsoring a boys basketball league for ages 9-14 and T-ball/pitchball for ages 5-8.

Free registration will be from 4-5 p.m. Dec. 8 and 11 at Hisaoka Gym; uniform will be included.

Basketball practices will be in late December to early January. The games will be played from mid-January through early March at Hisaoka Gym.

Benefit tourney for school golf teams

The Friends of West Hawaii High School Golf Teams will hold its second annual benefit tournament at 8 a.m. Sunday at Makalei Golf Club.

Proceeds benefit Kealakehe, Konawaena and Makua Lani teams.

The format is two-person shamble. The entry fee of $230 per team includes greens fee, prizes and luncheon.

Hawaii Cycling Club time trial

The Hawaii Cycling Club will hold its Teams for the Holidays Time Trial on Saturday.

Registration is from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at Mauna Kea State Park, and the 40K race starts at 8.

The course on Saddle Road starts at the 34.5 mile marker, goes south, makes a U-turn at the 22 marker and returns to the 34.5 marker.

Members of other bicycle and triathlon clubs, bicycle store teams and training partners are encouraged to participate. Nonmembers and athletes of all abilities and ages are welcome. HCC membership is free.

16th annual Abbott Galaher SeaMan race

Keauhou Canoe Club will host the SeaMan race for one- and two-man canoes and standup paddleboards Dec. 13 at Keauhou Bay.

There will be a 3-mile course for all SUP and paddlers in the junior (under-19), novice and recreational divisions, as well as paddlers over 60. The long course for paddlers is 5 miles, in age group divisions.

Registration will open at 7 a.m. with pre-race briefing at 8:15 and all divisions starting at 8:30 a.m.

There will be postrace lunch and awards.

Entry fee is $20 per paddler, plus a donation of food for the Hawaii Island Food Basket. If the food donation is not provided by the entrant, an additional donation of $10 will be collected for the Food Bank.

10th annual Jingle Bell Beach Run

Hawaii Sport Events presents the 10th annual Jingle Bell Beach Run on Dec. 21.

The event will feature a 5K, 1 mile and Santa’s Keiki Dash runs starting at 7:30 a.m. in front of Coconut Grove Marketplace.

There will be awards for the top three finishers in each category: Overall, 10-year age groups, and best Christmas costumes.

Entry fee for the 5K is $35 till Dec. 20, and $10 for the 1-mile till Dec. 20. The Keiki Dash is free for ages 6 and younger.

UH Rainbow, Trosky camps

On Dec. 15-16, there will be a showcase at Wong Stadium for players grades 9-12. Cost is $300. There will be 18 colleges and several MLB scouts in attendance. The showcase will run from 4 to 9 p.m. both days.

On Dec. 17, there will be a youth camp from 4 to 7 p.m. for boys and girls in grades 3-8 at Wong Stadium. Cost of the camp is $65.

On Dec. 19, there will be a softball camp for girls ages 10-18 at Wong Stadium. There will be two parts to this camp: Part 1 is from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and will be a showcase combine and defensive clinic; part 2 will be a pitching clinic from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Each portion costs $65.

Clinic staff will include U.S. Olympic silver medalist Monica Abbott, MLB scout Nate Trosky, Sonja Garnett who is head coach for Academy of Arts University and Luna College softball and baseball recruiter Darren Wheat.
