HONOLULU — Officials with the Honolulu Marathon say security will again be increased for the race that has already attracted nearly 30,000 entrants.
Bombs set off at the 2013 Boston Marathon prompted an increase of security measures at the Hawaii race last year.
KHON-TV reports the city will install 13 extra security cameras along the race route.
Peter Hirai of the Honolulu Emergency Management Department says Honolulu police will work alongside city emergency management staff instead of being positioned in separate places.
Honolulu police will have a field post with 50 on-duty and 440 special-duty officers. Canine units will sweep the areas near the start and finish lines.
The race begins at 5 a.m. Sunday on Ala Moana Boulevard near Queen Street.
