West Hawaii Dance Theatre and Academy presents “The Nutcracker” ballet at 6 p.m. Dec. 22 at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea. The ballet combines the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikowsky with the charming, old world fairy tale based on the original story, “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice.”

More than 50 area dancers and guest dancers from The Maui Academy of Performing Arts will be participating. Narration will be by Barbara Pritchard, music by pianist Megumi Kopp and violinist Jamilla Nur. Choreography is by West Hawaii Dance Theatre’s artistic director Virginia Holte, co-director Midori Satoh and instructors Jenna Power, Claire Hollinger and Megan Joy Chapman.

Proceeds from the performance benefit the academy’s ongoing and youth-at-risk programs.

Tickets are $25, $20, $15 or $10, depending on seating. For more information, call 329-8876 or visit kahilutheatre.org.
