Mulch loading available every day in Kealekehe

Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station now offers assisted mechanical loading of mulch every day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The service was previously available on Thursdays and Saturdays.

The service is available for residential or commercial customers for any size vehicle from small pickup trucks to large end-dump trailers. A small loading fee varies depending upon the size and type of vehicle. Customers will be required to pay at the time of service and will be served on a first come basis while mulch is available. Payment is by credit or debit card only.

Mulch is also available without loading fees at the county’s West Hawaii Organics Facility adjacent to the West Hawaii Sanitary Landfill in Puuanahulu.

Kona Elks holds car wash Saturday

Kona Elks Lodge 2616 will hold a car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot before Kona Town Storage on Pawai Place.

The $10 donation will support Elks community, keiki and civic programs. Tickets purchased for the October car wash that was cancelled will be honored at this event. Attendees may also purchase a giant hot dog, chips and a bottle of water for $5.

Hawaii Forest Institute launches online fundraising campaign

Hawaii Forest Institute’s “Mahalo aina: 40 Days for Hawaii’s Forests” fundraising campaign will help the organization reach its annual goal of planting 4,000 seedlings while providing forest stewardship learning experiences for 2,000 youth.

The organization seeks to raise $10,000 over 40 days through donations made at indiegogo.com. Contributions starting at $5 and continuing to $1,500 will earn perks for their donors including t-shirts, yoga classes and koa jewelry.
