Kona Coast LL holds registration

The Kona Coast Little League is open to players, ages 4 1/2 to 8, who reside in the area from Pottery Terrace to Manuka or attend a school in the district.

Registration will be at Yano Hall on Saturday, 4:30-6 p.m.

Bring an original birth certificate and two proofs of residency. Proofs include a HELCO or water bill, cable bill, driver’s license, and vehicle or insurance records. All documents must have a physical address.

Registration forms can be picked up at Choice Mart, or call Hano at 960-2366 or Nobi at 443-3190.

Payment by cash or check is required at registration.

UH Rainbow, Trosky camps

On Friday, there will be a softball camp for girls ages 10-18 at Wong Stadium. There will be two parts to this camp: Part 1 is from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and will be a showcase combine and defensive clinic; part 2 will be a pitching clinic from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Each portion costs $65.

Clinic staff will include U.S. Olympic silver medalist Monica Abbott, MLB scout Nate Trosky, Sonja Garnett who is head coach for Academy of Arts University and Luna College softball and baseball recruiter Darren Wheat.

Teen winter break sailing adventure

Big Island Sailing Foundation and Kona Sailing Club are sponsoring a weeklong sailing camp for youth.

The dinghy/keelboat program for 12-16 year-olds is at Honokohau Harbor.

Novice teens and intermediate sailors over 10 years are welcome. Activities run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 29-31 and Jan. 2.

Certified instructors and lifeguards lead the programs. No sailing experience is required, but participants should be able to swim. Booklets and life jackets are provided.

BISF is a nonprofit organization and requests a fee of $150 from new sailors (including a fee to become KSC Junior member), and $120 from returning sailors. Scholarships are available.

West Side Hawaii LL holds Waikoloa registration

The West Side Hawaii Little League will hold registration in Waikoloa from 5-6 p.m. Fridays this month.

The registration at Hooko Park is for T-ball, coach pitch, minors, majors and juniors divisions.

Bring a copy of birth certificate and three proofs of residency.

Registration from Kona residents is still being accepted till Jan. 1.

Waimea boys hoops registration

Parks and Rec Waimea is accepting registration for its 2015 boys basketball season.

The league runs from Jan. 27 to March 12. The fee is $10, payable to Waimea Athletic.

Free-throw shooting contest in Kona

A free-throw shooting contest for boys and girls ages 8-13 will be held Jan. 10 at Kekuaokalani Gym in Kailua-Kona.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with competition at 10. The age groups are: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. There is no cost.

The contest is a step toward national competition, with the finals to be held April 16-19 in Springfield, Mass. Kona Elks Lodge will provide for transportation of winners along with one parent for out-of-state competition.

Horseshoe club offers free play

The Kona Horseshoe Pitcher’s Club offers free, informal play from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays at Old Kona Airport Park. Pitchers of all levels are welcome.
