Suspect charged in Hilo convenience store robbery

Hawaii Island police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a robbery of a convenience store on Kekela Street in Hilo on Tuesday.

Andrew Sandeen, of no permanent address, was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Thursday after he was observed walking on the shoulder area of Highway 190 in Kona, according to to the Hawaii Police Department. Sandeen was arrested for the robbery, resisting arrest and assault first degree. The resisting arrest and assault was a result of the suspect assaulting a police detective. The arrest was a result of the investigation, which revealed Sandeen as being the responsible party who entered and robbed the convenience store, according to police.

Sandeen was charged at 6:25 p.m. Friday with the robbery, along with resisting arrest, assault first degree and an added charge of theft in the second degree. Sandeen is being held at the Hilo Police Cellblock pending his initial court appearance, his bail was set at $46,000.

Marie Brightbill of no permanent address, who was also previously arrested for the robbery, was released Friday pending further investigation.
