Humpback whale sanctuary advisory council seats open
The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is seeking to fill nine alternate seats on its advisory council. The council ensures public participation in sanctuary matters and provides advice to sanctuary management.
“The members of our advisory council represent an extremely important element of our community,” said Malia Chow, sanctuary superintendent. “Their input, experience and expertise assist sanctuary managers in making informed and timely decisions on how best to protect and conserve our important cultural and natural resources.”
The sanctuary is accepting applications for alternates representing the following seats: business/commerce, citizen-at-large, conservation, education, Lanai island representative, Molokai island representative, ocean recreation, tourism and whale watching.
Candidates are selected based on their expertise and experience in relation to the seat for which they are applying, community and professional affiliations and views regarding the protection and management of marine resources. Applicants who are chosen as members or alternates should expect to serve a two-year term.

Class on vision boarding, aromatherapy offered
The Dragonfly Ranch in Honaunau will host a class on vision boarding at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27. It will be taught by aromatherapist Laura Lease, who will explain how to create a vision board that represents goals and desires for the coming year. Attendees will also learn about Lease’s aromatherapy and weight loss system.

Libraries closed New Year’s Day
All public libraries will be closed Jan. 1 in observance of New Year’s Day. On New Year’s Eve, all public libraries that normally offer Wednesday evening hours will close no later than 5 p.m. Closing times will vary depending on the library.
