HONOLULU — The commander of a Pearl Harbor-based submarine has been relieved of his duties.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Cmdr. Tory Swanson was removed from his position Friday as commanding officer of the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Mississippi.
The Navy in an announcement says the change is due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command.
A command investigation is ongoing.
Pacific Fleet Submarine Force spokesman Cmdr. Brook DeWalt says the removal was a matter of professional nature and not a personal transgression.
DeWalt says it involves issues revolving around operational decision-making.
Swanson had served aboard the Mississippi since April 2013.
He has been administratively reassigned to the staff of the sub force.
