Parent, educator workshop planned

Hawaii Learning Resource presents a parent and educator workshop, “The Functions of Working Memory and Executive Control” from 9 a.m. to noon March 28 at Kanu o ka Aina located at 64-1043 Hiiaka St., Waimea.

The workshop will explore the topic of working memory and its relationship to the executive function process. Research shows a high correlation between working memory and success in school. Working memory is the ability of the brain to hold onto facts while actively using the information to do an activity. Weak working memory can impact academic functioning such as math computation, reading comprehension, written expression, following multi-step directions, attention and organization/study skills.

Darlene Robertson, professional development director at Assets School will present the workshop. Assets School is a private school in Honolulu whose mission is to provide a place for gifted and/or dyslexic children, which provides an individualized, integrated learning environment.

There is no fee to attend this workshop, however, registration is required. Register at hawaiilearningresource.org, or contact Hawaii Learning Resource at info@hawaiilearningresource.org or 885-9318.

The workshop is funded by grants from the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association and Young Brothers Ltd.
