The second ABC Read to Me Family Literacy Read Aloud Program was held Jan. 29, at Kealakehe Elementary School.

Parents learned tips for motivating children to love reading, enjoyed listening to good stories, heard the latest information and research about reading and collected book lists and other reading tips for families. They also traded books at the book swap and enjoyed snacks, drinks and dinner with family and friends. Prizes donated by Kona businesses were awarded to each age group, including adults and volunteers.

Principal Matsukawa read the February Book of the Month “The Spelling Bee” by Deborah Lee Rose. Sherry Bracken read to the adult group from a text selection from a local author, while children from toddler to fifth grade enjoyed stories in breakout sessions.

“It is such a fun night, my girls love the book swap, being read to, the fun prizes and of course, the pizza,” said parent Lisa Greig.
