HCFCU presents free business seminar

Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union will host a free seminar titled, “Business Basics and Introduction to Contracts” from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room at its Kaloko Facility.

The seminar will be presented by Hazel Beck, center director of West Hawaii for the Hawaii Small Business Development Center Network and Monika DeVries, COO of the law firm of DeVries &Associates P.C.

Topics will include business plan outlines, cash flow projections and distinguishing factors between oral and written contracts.

Artifacts from Lyman Mission House cellar discussed

Lynne Wolforth, of University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Department of Anthropology, will describe two archaeology projects carried out in the 1990s to uncover and analyze historic artifacts from the Lyman Mission House cellar.

The talk will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Lyman Museum in Hilo. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $3, or free to Lyman Museum members.

Petroglyph walk planned Sunday

Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park will hold a 1.5-mile round-trip walk to the largest petroglyph field in Hawaii from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Pohai Montague-Mullins will share stories that will help connect viewers to the Hawaiian people who created the images. The walk is free for members. Nonmembers may join in order to attend. Annual memberships are $30 for individuals and $45 for families.

Green building tour and tamale class offered

The Hiilani EcoHouse is the Green Think tour site on March 8 in Honokaa. The 4,000- square-foot carbon-neutral home employs special green building materials and design techniques.

Also, a tamale making class using organic grains will precede the tour from noon to 2 p.m. Cost is $25, which includes ingredients to take home four tamales. The tour is free for workshop participants.

The suggested tour donation $15, with tamale plate is $25.

Event to raise funds for white lions

A “Mystery of the White Lion” event at 6:30 p.m. March 8 will raise funds for white lions in Africa.

Linda Tucker will describe how she was saved by a female shaman from an encounter with lions and how she has devoted her life to return white lions to the wild.

The event is at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Gardens, 75-1048 Henry St. Minimum donation is $20.
