Mauna Kea Quilters meeting planned

Mauna Kea Quilters will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the meeting room of the Thelma Parker Memorial Library in Waimea. A business meeting, show and tell and sharing of new ideas and techniques will be included.

The group donates quilts to raise money for worthwhile organizations.

Habitat for Humanity needs help moving ReStore

Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii is seeking volunteers through Sunday to help move the organization’s ReStore from Kaloko Industrial Area to the Ulu Wini Housing complex off Hina Lani Street.

Trans Pacific Partnership lecture and protest planned

A lecture about the Trans Pacific Partnership is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at West Hawaii Civic Center. Speakers will include Sanya Reid-Smith of Third World Network in Malaysia; Jane Kelsey of University of Auckland in New Zealand and Palikapu Dedman of Pele Defense Fund and Ohana Hoopakele on Hawaii Island.

Also, a peaceful protest of the partnership is planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on Queen Kaahamanu Highway at the entrance to Waikoloa Beach Resort.

VFW meeting, dinners planned

VFW Post 12122 is hosting a game hen dinner at 5 p.m. Friday. Cost is $20. Make required reservations by calling 326-5675.

The first nomination of officers for next year will take place during a meeting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the post.

Also, a St. Patrick’s dinner is planned at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Corned beef and cabbage will be served for $15 and the event will include music by Lee Stewart.

The dinners are open to the public and benefit veterans programs in West Hawaii.

Cream tea presentation planned in Hilo

Imiloa Astronomy Center will observe national nutrition month with “A Cream Tea &Chat” from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

JoAnn Aguirre while discuss the health benefits of drinking tea and will serve a traditional cream tea.

Tickets are $12 for members and $17 for nonmembers and can be purchased at Imiloa’s front desk or by calling 969-9703.

Korean War Veterans Association meets

The Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the VFW meeting hall, 74-5543 Kaiwi St., Suite 18A.

Family event planned at Lanihau Center

Lanihau Center will hold a spring festival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, in the center court.

Families may take their picture with the Easter Bunny. The event also includes crafts, balloon sculpting and pog trading, with a pog challenge at Oshima Surf &Skate. Kealakehe Intermediate ukulele and chorus groups, Kahakai Elementary School Ukulele Ensemble and Breakers Bench by Floorox will perform.

Toastmasters compete in speech contest

Kona, Hilo, East Hawaii and newly chartered Waimea Toastmasters will meet from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the W.M. Keck Observatory Hualalai Conference Room, 65-1120 Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea to compete in the Area 12 International and Table Topics Speech Contest.

Lions Club pancake breakfast planned

The Kailua-Kona Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Hale Halawai on Alii Drive.

Tickets will be available at the door for $8, which include pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee or tea and entertainment.
