Zumbathon is program fundraiser
A Zumbathon fundraiser to benefit the “Warrior Enrichment Program” will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Kealakehe Elementary School cafeteria. Door prizes will be awarded, “healthy” vendors will be available and a free showing of the movie, “Fed-Up,” will be held in the library.
Cost is $5 per person or $7 for two people. Tickets will be sold at the door or can be purchased from Pohai Kirkland at the PCNC room on campus. For more information, contact Kirkland at 327-4345 or 345-3148.
Foundation taking grant applications
Hawaii Women’s Legal Foundation is accepting applications for its 2015 grant requests from organizations and projects that help to improve the legal status and welfare of women and children in Hawaii. The foundation considers grant applications twice a year — in April and October. The deadline for receipt of grant applications for consideration this cycle is April 3.
The foundation typically awards grants ranging from $500 to $5,000. It prefers not to award funds for operational expenses, and instead awards on a project-by-project basis or as a means to “jump-start” an organization’s funding sources. Its primary criteria in considering funding applications include improving women and children’s access to the legal system; reducing child abuse; reducing domestic violence; reducing sexual abuse; increasing financial independence; and improving women and children’s health, education and welfare.

Registration open for King Kamehameha Day parade
Preparations are underway for the annual King Kamehameha Day Celebration Parade, to be held at 9 a.m. June 13 on Alii Drive in Kailua Village. Entry registration is open to groups and individuals. Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are also sought.
For entry guidelines or to download a registration application, visit konaparade.org. Entries are subject to the approval of the parade committee and must not be political or blatantly advertorial. All equestrian participants must have basic horsemanship skills.
Additionally, a pa‘u equestrian and lei-making workshop will be held April 25 at Kona Historical Society. The public is invited.
A hoolaulea music and art festival will follow the parade at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Kekedi completes Air Force training
Air Force Airman Melanie Kekedi has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Kekedi is the daughter of Elizabeth Kekedi of Keaau.
She is a 2014 graduate of Christian Liberty Academy, Keaau.
