WAILUKU — The Maui man charged with murder in the stabbing death of his mother is now also charged with murder in his aunt’s death.

Maui police say Keoni Vinuya Tomas was charged with second-degree murder Monday in the January death of Gail Otsuka. Tomas was arrested when she was killed but was later released pending an investigation.

Two weeks ago, police found his mother, Kimberly Vinuya, with stab wounds in the Kahului home she shared with her son.

Tomas couldn’t be reached for comment at Maui Community Correctional Center, where he’s being held on $1 million bail in his mother’s death. He was expected to receive a court-appointed attorney at a future court date.
