Rosemary Ekert

Rosemary “Pineapple” Rodrigues Ekert, 62, of Kailua-Kona died March 15, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1952, in Pahala, she was an X-ray technician in the Army, North Hawaii Community Hospital, Kona Community Hospital, Kona-Kohala Medical Clinic and many other medical facilities, a singer in the Kona Chorale Festival group, dancer with the Calvary Community Church halau Aloha Ke Akua and an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. March 27 at the Big Game Fishing Clubhouse at Honokohau Harbor for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

She is survived by husband, Gerald Ekert of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Sabrina (Albert) Rosario of Kailua-Kona; mother, Dominga Rodrigues of Volcano; brothers, Joey (Sue) Rodrigues of Georgia, David (Laura) Rodrigues of Volcano; five grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kaela Avanilla

Kaela B. Avanilla, 17, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 14, 2015. She was born Nov. 30, 1997.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. March 28 at the Kekuaokalani Gymnasium at Old Kona Airport Park. A celebration of life follows from 1 to 8 p.m. on the main soccer field at the park.

She is survived by parents, Stephen and Denise Avanilla; siblings, Tianna, Keoni and Tainalu Avanilla of Kailua-Kona; many grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Taichi Harada

Taichi Harada, 85, of Honalo died March 1, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 29, 1929, in Honalo, he was a coffee farmer, member of Daifukuji Soto Mission and Honalo 2 Kumiai, a former Boy Scout troop leader-Troop 14 and an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. March 28 at Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by son, Darren Harada of Honalo; daughter, Liane (Kelly) Robinson of Waimea, Kauai; two grandchildren; numerous cousins.

Kenneth Maa

Kenneth Maa, 76, of Hilo died March 2, 2015. Born in Honolulu, he retired as an agricultural inspector.

Friends may call at 7 a.m. March 28 at Ballard Family Mortuary, Hilo, for a 9 a.m. service.

He is survived by wife, Barbara Maa of Hilo; son, Donny (Gerilyn) Maa of Honolulu; daughter, Roselani Maa of Hilo; brother, James (Janet) Maa of Kailua-Kona; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dana Walsh

Dana Alan Walsh, 55, of Keaau died March 12, 2015, at Pohai Malama. Born Aug. 20, 1959, in Boston, he was a real estate appraiser senior analyst for Pro Teck Valuation Services.

Inurnment services will take place at the Byodo-In Temple, Valley of the Temples, Oahu, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Lung Association. Online condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

He is survived by wife, Debra Lex of Hilo; daughter, Tassie (Tim) Plankey of Long Meadow, Mass.; sister, Lynne Walsh of Medford, Mass.; two grandchildren; one niece.

Elugino Alvarez Sr.

Elugino Vazquez Alvarez Sr., 90, of Pahoa died March 12, 2015, at Yukio Okutsu Hawaii State Veterans Home. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, he is an Army veteran and retired as a ranch hand.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by sons, Elugino Alvarez Jr., Fernando Alvarez, Robin Alvarez, Alan Alvarez, Dean Alvarez, Wilbur Alvarez, Wayne Alvarez; daughters, Mildred Alvarez, Irene Flores, Vivian Buhl, Patricia Alvarez, Deborah Alvarez, Verna Chappell, Barcilia Ramirez, Darlene Marrero, Joanna Dima, Renee Abadilla, Caroline Lamellas of New Mexico; brother, Fernando Vazquez of New York; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice Hardee

Alice Louisa Hardee, 79, of Waikoloa died March 12, 2015, at her Waikoloa residence. Born March 12, 1936, in Fresno, Calif., she was a retired teacher.

Private service were held. Memorial donations may be sent to North Hawaii Hospice at 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, HI, 96743.

She is survived by husband, Jerry Hardee of Waikoloa; daughters, Kim (Lenny) Sherman of Clovis, Calif., Lynn (Rob) Rostau of Waikoloa; brothers, John Najarian of Claremont, Calif., Elbert (Claire) Najarian of Sebastopol, Calif.; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
