HAGATNA, Guam — Officials say nearly 100 Guam Air National Guard members will be deployed to Afghanistan in the fall.

Guam newspaper the Pacific Daily News reports the Air Guard’s 254th Red Horse Squadron has received an alert order for the deployment.

The island’s single largest deployment to Afghanistan wrapped up more than a year ago when Guam welcomed home almost 600 Guard members.

In 2012, Red Horse Squadron members also served in Afghanistan.

Maj. Gen. Benny M. Paulino, the Guam National Guard’s retiring adjutant general, says members of the Guard’s 254th Security Forces Squadron and a support squadron are still serving in deployments to undisclosed Southwest Asia locations.
