ACA and reporting requirements discussed

What began as a bill with several thousand pages, the Affordable Care Act and its implementing regulations have morphed into more than 11,000 pages of guidance that will impact business.

During “The Affordable Care Act: Employer Reporting Requirements,” from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Honpa Hongwanji Hall in Hilo, presenters will focus on the reporting requirements added to the Internal Revenue Code that apply to large employers.

Kona PBW awarding four scholarships

Kona Business and Professional Women’s organization will award four $1,000 scholarships to graduating West Hawaii seniors. Applications are available from college counselors at Kealakehe and Konawaena high schools or from Mary Reynolds.

Applications are due Tuesday. Interviews will be scheduled at a later date.

Cancer group meets Tuesday

A cancer support group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant in Honalo. People newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors are welcome, as well as interested caregivers and supportive family members.

Reading program scheduled Tuesday

The Friends of the Libraries, Kona is hosting its free family Read Aloud Program, “Books are Building Blocks,” from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kailua-Kona Public Library. Registration will take place from 4:30 to 5 p.m. in front of the library. During this school year, the theme is “Fizz Boom Read” and the program will be focusing on science as attendees explore the world through reading.

This month’s guest speaker will be Nancy Tashima, curator and science teacher from the Onizuka Space Center. She will be making a presentation on the International Space Station and planetary exploration.
