Hawaii County Civil Defense will suspend daily lava flow and eruption updates effective Saturday.

The agency reported Thursday morning very little activity in the lower reaches of the June 27 lava flow following its morning helicopter overflight. All breakout and flow activity was limited to the upper areas of the flow, extending from about 8 miles upslope of the flow’s stalled leading edges to the summit area of Kilauea Volcano.

Because of the ongoing decrease in downslope activity and the downgrade in the threat level issued by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory on Wednesday, Civil Defense said it would end daily assessments and eruption updates on Saturday.

“Eruption and flow activity will continue to be monitored by the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency and the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory and the community will be kept informed of any changes or possible threats,” officials said Thursday.
