Yoga teacher and healer leads meditation classes
Mahankirn Khalsa will lead participants through a breath walk and meditation session designed to reduce stress in their daily lives. The Kona Suicide Prevention Task Force will hold a monthly meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the West Hawaii Community Health Center conference room, 75-5751 Kuakini Highway. Everyone is welcome.

Volunteers sought to remove invasive plants
Volunteers are sought to help protect the native Hawaiian rainforest at the summit of Kilauea during Stewardship at the Summit programs in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Stewardship at the Summit begins at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. It will be held Thursday and April 11, 17 and 24, May 1, 8, 20 and 30 and June 5, 13 and 19.
Volunteers remove invasive, nonnative plants that prevent native species from growing. Meet project leaders Paul and Jane Field at 9 a.m. at the Kilauea Visitor Center. Participants should wear sturdy hiking shoes and long pants and bring a hat, raingear, day pack, snacks and water. Gloves and tools are provided. No advance registration is required, and there is no cost to participate, but park entrance fees apply.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park announces program schedule
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park continues its tradition of sharing Hawaiian culture and After Dark in the Park programs with the community and visitors in April. To celebrate the Merrie Monarch Festival’s 52nd anniversary, special cultural presentations are planned. All programs are free, but park entrance fees apply. A $2 donation helps support park programs.
Participants will learn how to create an ohe hano ihu or musical bamboo nose flute from 10 a.m. to noon April 7 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.
U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geologist Matt Patrick will present an update on the Kilauea summit eruption from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 7 in the Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium.
Participants of an ohe kapala demonstration will learn to craft designs on a bamboo stamp to embellish cloth. The workshop will be from 10 a.m. to noon April 9 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.
Patti Kaula will demonstrate a variety of traditional lei-making techniques including haku, kui, hipuu and Hilo styles from 10 a.m. to noon April 10 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.
