Tutu’s House announces programs

Robert M. Hinz Jr. will lead a workshop about maximizing Social Security and retirement income from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Tutu’s House. To register, call Tutu’s House at 885-6777.

Also, Anne Anderson will facilitate a support group for those with ALS, their caregivers and family from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The group will provide education on treatments and research, provide informational speakers, develop healthy coping tools, help with advocacy and resources, share experiences and ideas and create a safe, supportive community on the second Saturday of each month. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish for the potluck. Registration is required by calling Terryn Davis, Hawaii ALS care manager, at 597-6416.

There are no fees for Tutu’s House programs, but tax-deductible donations are always welcome. To register, call Tutu’s House at 885-6777.

American Legion meets Wednesday

American Legion Kona Post 20 meets at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Veterans of Foreign Wars facility on Kaiwi Street adjacent to Kona LockSmith. Dinner will be at 5 p.m.

Guest speaker will be Josephine Ibarra, mental health outreach specialist working for HOPE Services Hawaii Inc. HOPE Services Hawaii is a nonprofit corporation, which operates and manages numerous homeless programs on the Island of Hawaii.

All veterans and their families are welcome.

Seniors to learn about therapeutic horse program

Nancy Bloomfield will speak about a miniature therapeutic horse program at the Kailua-Kona Seniors meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai.

Codependent women meeting Thursday

A Co-Dependents Anonymous women’s meeting is held from 3 to 4 p.m. every Thursday at Unity Church, 75-5722 Hanama Place.

The 12-step fellowship is comprised of those whose common purpose is recovery from codependence and the development and maintenance of healthy relationships. The nonprofit organization is supported by the voluntary contributions of attending members.
