Short cut may be the problem on Nani Kailua
One of the problems of the traffic on Nani Kailua Drive is that many people use this street and Hienaloli Road as a shortcut between Queen Kaahumanu and Hualalai Road. Perhaps more short-cutters use that route than do residents of the adjoining neighborhoods.
Hienaloli includes a narrow and dangerous disintegrating one-lane trestle, one left over from the days of the cane and coffee trains. Some heavy vehicles use that trestle. I have occasionally seen holes through the paving on it and could see to the the bottom of the gully many feet below.
Once that trestle collapses from overuse, there will probably be no need for traffic bumps on Nani Kailua, as the short cut route will exist no longer.

Mayor’s use of card should raise eyebrows
Our mayor charged $892 on his county credit card at a hostess bar in Honolulu. I’m not making this up, it was on the front page of West Hawaii Today on March 29. I calculate an $850 tab plus the 5 percent credit card surcharge some bars generally charge. If Billy wants to party in Honolulu that’s between him and his wife. The fact that he freely pays for it with his county credit card, I would expect to raise more than a few eyebrows.
Although it is commonly understood that the purchase of alcohol is not normally a permitted use of the card, we have seen no remorse on the part of our mayor is this area. If Mayor Kenoi can spend this kind of money in a bar and return his rental car to the airport maintaining a blood alcohol level within the legal limit, I congratulate him.
