Herman Ah Yee

Herman Ah Yee Sr., 78, of Naalehu died March 25, 2015, at his residence. Born Oct. 21, 1936, in Kamaoa-Ka‘u, he was a cowboy at Kaalualu Ranch, a boiler technician for Ka‘u Agribusiness Sugar Co. and member of the Naalehu Senior Club.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 11 at the Naalehu Assembly of God Church for a 9:30 a.m. service. Burial follows at the Naalehu County Cemetery. Family requests casual attire worn. Flowers are welcome. Family and friends may call 929-8410 or 929-9028.

He is survived by son, Herman (Louann) Ah Yee Jr., of Naalehu; daughters, Joy (Stanley Williams) Ah Yee and Dawnalynn (Henry) Waiwaiole Jr., both of Naalehu, Velma Becraft of Waihee, Maui, Naomi (Lawrence) Smith Jr., of Lawrenceville, Ga.; brothers, Raphael (Virginia) Ah Yee of Mililani, Oahu, Francis (Mardel) Ah Yee of Walnut Creek, Calif., Paul Ah Yee of Waiohinu, Sylvester (Martha) Ah Yee of Keaukaha; sister, Elena Paulo of Hilo; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Benjamin Umayam

Benjamin “Chico” Umayam, 67, of Honokaa died March 11, 2015, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. He was born on June 7, 1947 in Haina, Honokaa, he was a mill tender for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and a former pool attendant at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. April 11 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. Mass. Urn burial follows at the church cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by daughter, Siara (Roger) Acdal of Honokaa; brother, Daniel (Mary Ellen) Umayam of Honokaa; sisters, Josephine Kini, Dorothy Jordan, Susie Akagi and Cecelia (Fortunato) Islaias, all of Honokaa, Charlene (Russell) Rodriguez of Kukuihaele; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ellen Martin

Ellen Leilani Martin, 72, of Hilo and formerly of Oahu died March 26, 2015, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born on Oahu, she was a retired certified nurse’s aide and a deaconess at Ke Ola Mau Loa Church in Waimea.

Services will be held at a later date in Kohala.

She is survived by daughters, Deborah (Steve) Jelvani of Pukalani, Maui, Lenora Barr of Vallejo, Calif., Lisa Barr of Haleiwa, Oahu; sons, Jerome (Morganne) Bustos of Pueblo, Colo., Clyde (Vicky) Barr of El Segundo, Calif., Richard Barr of Haleiwa, Oahu; brothers, Allan Martin Jr. of Keaau, James Martin of Hilo, John Martin of Honolulu; sisters, Beverly Martin of Waimea, Marynancy Ho of Las Vegas; companion, Joe Hemlick of Hilo; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Kimberly Jacobson

Kimberly M.H.M. Silva Jacobson, 32, of Keaau died March 25, 2015, at her home. She was born in Honolulu.

Private services were held.

She is survived by son, Shayne Godinez of Hilo; daughters, Caitlyn Jacobson and Alexus Jacobson, both of Hilo; parents, Clyde and Lois Silva of Keaau; brother, Bryson (Erin) Silva of Keaau; sister, Kaycie Silva of Keaau; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Pauline Leong

Pauline Suemi Leong, 88, of Hilo died March 14, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 18, 1926, in Hilo, she was a retired district office secretary for the state Department of Education.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by husband, Sam Leong of Hilo; cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charles Maas Jr.

Charles “Charlie” John Maas Jr., 67, of Pahoa died March 26, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Chicago, he was a hotel developer and a Vietnam War Navy veteran.

Private family services were held.

He is survived by wife, Jeanne Maas of Pahoa; son, Nick Maas of Aurora, Colo.; nieces and nephews.

Marjorie Nolan

Marjorie Lucile Nolan, 92, of Pahoa died March 2, 2015, at home. Born in Rockford, Ill., she was a homemaker and member of Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She is survived by sons, Michael Nolan of Uniontown, Pa., David (Corinne Jan) Nolan of Oakland, Calif., Terry (Debbie) Nolan of Santa Rosa, Calif., Timothy (Donna Harris) Nolan of Honolulu, James Nolan of Pahoa; daughter, Mary Wilkes of Pahoa; sister, Gloria (Bob) Howard of Anaheim, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
