A Hilo man faces charges after trying to return items that had been purchased with a stolen credit card.

Big Island police report Chad Wright, 25, attempted to return $900 worth of items purchased with a stolen credit card.

According to the Hawaii Police Department, a purse belonging to a 26-year-old woman was stolen from a vehicle parked in downtown Hilo on April 1. The woman’s credit card was used twice the next day. Each transaction exceeded $1,000.

A police investigation revealed that Wright was the same person who bought the items. He was then arrested and taken to the Hilo Police Station.

Police charged Wright with two counts each of fraud, identity theft, forgery and second-degree theft on Tuesday. His bail was set at $19,000 and he went to court on Wednesday for his initial court appearance.
