Waiakea secured an HHSAA berth in style.

David Nakamura and Bryce Yamashita combined on a no-hitter Friday, and the Warriors beat Pahoa 18-0 at home to secure their fifth consecutive trip to states as the outright regular-season champion in Big Island Federation Federation Division I.

Nakamura and Yamashita each threw a pair of hitless innings. Nakamura started and walked three with three strikeouts, and Yamashita struck out five with two walks. It’s the second four-inning no-hitter for Waiakea this season. Makoa Andres held Hawaii Prep hitless on March 17.

Waiakea (8-1) will host Hilo (4-4) in a best-of-three BIIF semifinal series beginning with a doubleheader next Friday.

Andres (2 for 2) hit a double that brought in two runs as the Warriors scored 10 times in the first against the Daggers (1-7). Mikey Jitchaku hit a run-scoring double in the third and finished with two RBIs. Shaun Kurosawa hit a two-run single in the third.

In two innings, Pahoa starter Zach Noll allowed nine hits, 16 runs – seven earned – with three walks and a strikeout.

The more important game for the Daggers comes at 1 p.m. Saturday against Hawaii Prep (2-6), a game that was moved to the Warriors field because of weather concerns. With a victory, Pahoa would force a play-in game against Ka Makani for the final berth at the BIIF Division II tournament.

“This is where we have the potential to reach our season’s goal,” Daggers coach Scott Salfen said. “We’ll give it 100 percent.”
