KAILUA-KONA — Kealakehe powered its way past rival Konawaena in straight sets 25-16, 25-17, 25-20 Tuesday night.

Seth Lincoln led the way for the Waveriders (9-2), delivering a team-high 15 kills. Jonah Kaulia paced Kealakehe with three kills in each set for a total of nine and Peni Kalavi added eight.

The win means more than just bragging rights for the Waveriders. It also helps them keep pace in the packed BIIF D-I race with the playoffs quickly approaching. Kealakehe is currently wrestling with Waiakea (8-1) and Hilo (8-2) for seeding, and all three squads are trying to catch undefeated Kamehameha (9-0).

The Wildcats fall to 7-3 and have defending BIIF D-II champion Ka’u hot on their heels for the top spot. The Trojans (6-3) face winless Ke Kula O Ehunuikaimalino on Wednesday.

In other BIIF action on Tuesday, Kohala rallied past Hawaii Prep 16-25, 25-23, 25-18, 27-25 for a valuable victory against a fellow D-II foe.

Laupahoehoe forfeited its match against Honokaa and also called off a game Saturday against Ka‘u.
