Prince Kuhio Plaza is due for a facelift.
Beginning this spring, the Big Island’s only indoor mall will undergo a multi-million-dollar renovation, including new finishes, updated soft seating areas, column treatments and patterned flooring.
“The work will be done outside of mall hours and is estimated to be completed prior to the start of the holiday season,” according to a press release provided by General Growth Properties Inc., which owns and manages the plaza.
The renovations will be the first major sprucing up of the Hilo mall since 1999, according to Robyn Gee Tucker, marketing manager for General Growth Properties. The 504,443-square-foot building was constructed in 1985.
Tucker said she could not provide any more detailed information regarding the investment her company was making into the mall, other than the fact that the renovations would total in the millions.
Prince Kuhio Plaza hosts about 70 different storefronts, Tucker said, including the newly added Pier 1 Imports, which opened its doors to the public on March 20.
