HAGATNA, Guam — A woman who was housesitting in Guam for Navy submariners has agreed to plead guilty to bank fraud.
The Pacific Daily News, a Guam newspaper, reports Angeli Manaois Moragne signed an agreement Tuesday to plead guilty to financial institution fraud.
Federal court documents say the agreement is in exchange for a lower sentencing recommendation.
According to the plea agreement, Moragne forged three people’s signatures to get money for herself and acquaintances.
The court document says forged checks totaled nearly $7,000 and were cashed in 2013 against accounts at the Bank of Guam and Navy Federal Credit Union.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Federal prosecutors, however, have agreed to recommend a sentence on the lower end of the scale.
