HONOLULU — The union representing Hawaii’s public school teachers says it has reached an agreement with the state that will increase salary levels and other compensation.
The Hawaii State Teachers Association announced late Wednesday the supplemental agreement includes a one-time lump sum payment of $2,000 for active, full-time licensed teachers. Half-time teachers will receive $1,000.
It also includes a base salary, across-the-board increase of 1.8 percent, which will be effective on the last day of the current contract.
The current contract ends June 30, 2017.
The supplemental agreement is the result of reopening the current contract to address a salary study conducted by the union and the state Department of Education.
Other modifications include additional time for professional development.
The union represents more than 13,500 teachers statewide.
