No tsunami was triggered by a magnitude-6.8 earthquake that occurred early Thursday in Papua New Guinea.

The earthquake was recorded at 12:45 a.m. Hawaii time in the New Britian Region of Papua New Guinea, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not generated, according to the center.
