The University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team was denied its first trip to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship match Thursday, losing 21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-16 to Pepperdine in the semifinals in Irvine, Calif.

UH (24-6) will wait to see if it can earn one of two at-large bids to the NCAA championships.

Josh Taylor tallied a match-high 22 kills, hitting .417 to lead the Waves (24-5), who avenged two earlier loss to Hawaii in Honolulu.

The Rainbow Warriors were outhit .282-.186.

Sinisa Zarkovic led the way with 14 kills and seven digs while Kupono Fey added 11 kills and nine digs.
