Mopup efforts are underway Tuesday to extinguish a brush fire that broke out Monday and burned more than 200 acres near Punaluu.

The fire, as of Tuesday morning, was not actively burning and firefighters were working to douse any hotspots and flareups within the burn area near Ninole Loop in Ka’u, a Hawaii County Fire Department official said. The burn area is located on both sides of Highway 11, which remains open Tuesday morning after being closed most of Monday.

No homes or property were damaged by the fire, which was reported at 11:42 a.m., and no evacuation was ordered. However, one residence on Alahaki Road did evacuate voluntarily.

No injuries were reported.
