Ramon “Ray” Masaaki Tanaka, 71, of Kailua-Kona died April 18, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 23, 1943, in Honolulu, he was a social worker for the Department of Education and member of West Hawaii Aikido Club and Merrie Monarch Singers.
Friends may call at 4:30 p.m. May 13 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary in Honolulu for a 5:30 p.m. service. Family requests aloha attire be worn and no flowers. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 16 at the family’s residence in Kona.
He is survived by wife, Laverne Tanaka of Kailua-Kona; son, Royce (Terri) Tanaka of Bay Area, Calif.; daughter, Janis (Dean) Morita of Kapolei, Oahu; brother, Riccio Tanaka of Honolulu; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Clara Takata
Clara Shizue Takata, 90, of Kohala died April 17, 2015, at her home. Born June 9, 1924, in Holualoa, she was the owner of Takata Store in Kohala.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. May 16 at Kamehameha Park in Kapaau. Family requests aloha attire be worn. In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts will be donated in her memory to local community organizations.
She is survived by husband, Shiro Takata of Kohala; sons, Rayton (Teri) Takata and Jerry (Kim) Takata, both of Kohala; brothers, Thad Ogi of Pearl City, Oahu, Paul Ogi of Kaneohe, Oahu; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert Perreria Sr.
Robert William Perreria Sr., 94, of Hilo died April 29, 2015, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired supervisor for the former Hawaiian Telephone Co., member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Big Island Portuguese Club and Francis Counsel 573 Young Men’s Institute, Holy Name Society and a World War II Army veteran.
Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. May 14 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by son, Robert (Cheryl) Perreira Jr. of Hilo; daughters, Janifer (Paul) Davis of San Antonio, Colette (Tom) Colby of Kelso, Wash.; brother, Donald Perreira of Hilo; sister, Ruby Carvalho of Hilo; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sarah Pierson
Sarah K. “Boogie” Pierson, 73, died April 26, 2015, in Waimea. Born April 9, 1942, in Honolulu, she was a member of the Imiola Congregational Church and a retired housekeeper at North Hawaii Community Hospital.
Friends may call at 11 a.m. May 16 at Imiola Congregational Church in Waimea for a service.
She is survived by son, Joseph (Raynette) Pierson of Waimea; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

James Griffin
James M. Griffin, 82, of Ocean View died April 29, 2015, at Ka‘u Hospital. Born Jan. 27, 1933, in Chandlerville, Ill., he was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served in the Navy, was a police officer for Honolulu Police Department, opened Exquizite Junk in Kona and was head of security at Kanaloa.
Services will be held at a later date.
He is survived by wife, Jean Griffin of Ocean View; daughters, Audrey Rogers of Gerber, Calif., Tiana Companion of Kahaluu; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Darrell Deaton
Darrell Deaton, 60, longtime Kailua-Kona resident, died March 15, 2015. Born July 14, 1954, in Noblesville, Ind., he was the maitre de at Roy’s Bar and Grill in Waikoloa, managed a coffee and macadamia nut plantation in Captain Cook and participated in activities at his church.

June Sakiko Beatty, 95, of Waimea and formerly of Honolulu died April 26, 2015, at her Waimea residence. She was born Sept. 27, 1919, in Paauilo.

She is survived by son, William (Victoria) Beatty of California; daughter, Patrice (Pete) Moynahan of Waimea; brother, Iwao (Alice) Yonemitsu of Naalehu; two grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

Karen Doom
Karen “Ana” Alice Doom, 75, of Keaau died April 27, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 12, 1939, in Minnesota, she was a bookkeeper for the Orchidland Community Association, a former secretary for the First United Protestant Church in Hilo and formerly worked in the composing room at the San Diego Union and Evening Tribune.
Private services were held.
She is survived by daughters, Dana Maeda of Mountain View, Jana (Jon) Hunter of Keaau; son, Kevin; brother, John Hanson; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Philip Haslip
Philip Eugene Haslip, 88, of Kailua-Kona died April 15, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Feb. 6, 1927, in Flint, Mich., he was a retired business owner, photographer, golfer, member of the Kona Elks Club and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by wife, Laura Haslip of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Linda (Theo) Toren of West Point, Calif., Laurie (Edmond) LeCoq of France, Lani (Count) Edmondson of Northridge, Calif.; sisters, Lila Dawson, Phyllis Wright and Mary Lou Gilbert, all of Lewiston, Mich.; brother, Donald Haslip of Lewiston, Mich.; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Katherine Peters
Katherine Ann Peters, 93, of Hilo died May 2, 2015, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Nov. 20, 1921, in Detroit, she was the head librarian at Kauai Community College and member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association.
