If the BIIF is going to come home with gold this weekend from Oahu, a judoka is going to have to do it – the league was blacked out elsewhere.
Kamehameha-Hawaii was denied its third trip to the HHSAA Division II baseball finals Friday, and Hawaii Prep’s JJ Minakata and Hilo’s Emily Soares lost in the semifinals in tennis.
While Minakata and Soares fell to the respective top seeds, the Warriors were seeded second and looking to face Maryknoll for the third consecutive season for the title.
Instead, undefeated Aiea connected for six hits in the first inning against freshman Reece Mondina and went on to defeat Kamehameha 4-1 at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.
Dylan Madamba pitched a three-hitter for Na Alii (14-0), and Jared Uyeda’s bunt single brought in two runs during a three-run first. Mondina eventually settled down after the first, and allowed only one more hit as he went five innings.
BIIF champion Kamehameha (13-2) scored its run in the fifth when Daylen Calicdan led off with triple and scored on Makana Aiona’s hit. That was all the Warriors could manage against Madamba, who struck out five and walked only two.
Kamehameha will face Kauai at 11 a.m. for third place, while OIA champion Aiea gets two-time champion Maryknoll in the 4 p.m. title game.

Konawaena 4, Kapolei 3: Logan Canda and Koa Basque hit doubles in the sixth to produce the go-ahead run at Hans L’Orange Stadium, and the Wildcats advanced to the Division II fifth-place game.
Canda went the distance – the game was stopped after six inning – in victory, allowing five hits and six walks with four strikeouts.
Shelton Grace was 2 for 3 with a run-scoring single for the BIIF runner-up Wildcats (6-8-1), who will take on Molokai at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Les Murakami Stadium.

Hilo 4, Moanalua 3: Nick Antony’s grand slam at Hans L’Orange carried the Vikings into the Division I fifth-place game.
Hilo had just one hit until it loaded the bases in the sixth on singles by Joey Jarneski and Russel Ragual and Josiah Factora’s walk.
Factora got the victory, yielding nine hits and three runs in sixth innings, walking four and striking out five. Riley Macanas struck out two in the seventh to get the save.
The BIIF champion Vikings (10-5) face Baldwin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Les Murakami.

Baldwin 14, Waiakea 0: Kawena Alo-Kaonohi threw a one-hitter in a five-inning TKO with seven strikeouts in consolation play and the Bears scored four runs in each of the first three innings at Hans L’Orange.
The Warriors (9-5) used five pitchers and substituted freely – only David Nakamura got more than one at-bat. Evan Ishihara started and pitched an inning, giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and a strikeout.
Trevor Shimokusu had Waiakea’s hit.

Volleyball
Bradley Comilla smacked 26 kills and Justice Lord put down 17 as Hilo swept Kahuku 25-23, 25-18, 25-20 at a Division I regional at Koaia Gym in Keaau.
The BIIF runner-up Vikings (13-3) advance to play fourth-seeded King Kekaulike at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals. At 3:30 p.m., BIIF champion Kamehameha (15-0), the No. 2 seed, will host Kalaheo. The Mustangs needed four sets to beat Lahainaluna in the first round.
Water polo
Halia Nahale-a scored six goals as BIIF champion Kamehameha beat Roosevelt 10-7 in consolation play in Honolulu.
Pua Wong added two goals, and Kenisha Rowe and Lahela Rosario also scored for the Warriors (12-2), who will battle Lahainaluna at 3:15 Saturday for fifth.
Kaiser 9, Konawaena 7: Bailey Walters powered the Wildcats with four goals, but Konawaena finished 0-2 at its first state tournament.
Kaulana Ruedy netted two goals and Aaliyah Butler also found the back of the net for the BIIF runner-up Wildcats (7-7).
Tennis
Top seeds Kawika Lam of Punahou and Taylor Lau of St. Francis cruised into the finals, taking out the BIIF champions along the way.
Lam beat Minakata 6-1, 6-1, while Lau handed Soares 6-0, 6-1. Earlier on Friday in the quarterfinals, Lau bested Kealakehe’s Michelle Uyeda 6-2, 6-1.
Uyeda posted one of the few upsets Thursday when she opened with 6-2, 6-3 triumph against seventh-seeded Lisa Owen of Kaiser.
